Notes
The two ladies of Verona are of course Dorie and her daughter Aria, and they do live in Verona. They both play the cello, often together.
Dorie's Aria is in fact a wordless aria, one which might reflect the tender entwinement of their lives, or the peace they find when the dogs, cats, and birds are asleep, or the quiet joy they find in looking out at the world together.
Aria's Dory is just a terrible pun and an excuse to write a sailor's song.
