"This is the Day" is a setting of a joyous text used in Catholic masses at Easter for many centuries. In its original Latin (“Haec dies”) it is heard in settings by dozens of composers. Its few words ("This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Alleluia") suggest a progression from breathless anticipation to ever more jubilation, a trajectory I have attempted to emulate in this musical setting.
