Cellist, colleague, and friend Maggie Parkins wanted to provide a graduation present for her senior cello students and asked me to make a cello octet version of the quintessential graduation piece, Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance.” Pomp Circumscribed is dedicated to Maggie Parkins and her 5C Cello Choir.
Pomp Circumscribed gives everyone a chance to show off, and nearly everyone a chance to play the tune.
