Canon å la Mode is an arrangement of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star for three cellos. The tune, and nothing but the tune, is presented in all seven modes, forwards, backwards, and upside-down, in augmentation and diminution. The piece can be treated as a theory teaching tool or as an odd sort of fantasia on a familiar theme. It is easy to play in that there are only seven pitches, all in first position, and nothing faster than eighth notes. |
